With over three decades of admissions experience, first as the Director of Admission at Fairfield University and then as an Independent Educational Consultant, Mary has helped countless students and their parents confidently navigate the complexities of college admissions.
Mary is a long-standing professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association and a Certified Educational Planner. She earned a certificate in the College Advising Program from Teachers College at Columbia University in 2017. Mary maintains her in-depth knowledge of colleges and universities through ongoing conferences, workshops and in-person campus visits, where she connects with students, faculty and admission staff.
Mary frequently presents workshops at local libraries and is active with several agencies dedicated to improving access to higher education for all students. She is on the board of the Fairfield County Symphony Society, and enjoys playing violin (amateur) with the FCSS, the American Chamber Orchestra and other ensembles.
Mary (Spiegel) Smith, a seasoned expert in college admissions, is excited to announce the rebranding of her 25-year college consulting practice to Seaside College Planning.
Why Seaside? “The new name not only reflects my relocation to the vibrant shoreline community of Black Rock, CT, but it also represents a vision,” Mary explains. “Like many, I am inspired by the energy and potential being near the water. With this name, I wish to reflect the limitless opportunities that my students have on their horizon as they navigate their voyage to college.”
